C., TUESDAY, SEPT. 24, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Larry Brooks Shoots His Second Buzzard The uninitiated will think there Vs something rotten at the Tryon Club if Golf Pro Larry Brooks shoots many more buzzards cub there. On Monday he shot a buzzard at hole No. 9 with a No. 2 iron. Par for this hole is 5. It was the second time within the past few months that Larry shot three under par on this hole. Among the out-of-town guests at the Country Club the past few days were W. P. Hamrick of Co lumbia, S. C.; Ted Hill, Frank Richards, P. Worth, Greenville, S. C.; Z. R. Robinson of New Or leans; Guy Williams of Spindale, N. C.; John S. Pearson of Birm ingham, Ala.; Wm. E. Gray and Dick Gleason of Brandenton, Fla. Edsalls Arrive At New Home Here Dr. and Mrs. David L. Edsall arrived in Tryon Monday and are guests at Thousand Pines Inn for p few days befdre moving into their new home which they recent lv built in Gillette Woods. Dr. Edsall was dean of the Harvard IJnivorsitv Medical college at Cam bridge, Mass. Tryon welcomes these new friends as regular resi dents of the community. GARDEN CLUB TO MEET The Garden club will meet on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock, September 25th, with Mrs. Theodo cia J. Kennedv. at the Lake 7 Tnier Inn. Mrs. H. C. Metcalf will read ?, paper on “Lilies.” Former Tryonite Married Saturday Embury Smith, son of Mrs. W. F. Smith and of the late Mr. W. F. Smith, was married on Satur day to Miss Marian Phelps. Both y ung people haVe been making tl eir home in Washington, D. C., where they will continue to reside. Mrs. W. F. Smith was a recent visitor in Tryoin and was for many years a resident of this community. Rites Held For Mrs. Branscom In Polk County Columbus, Sept. 23. Funeral services were held in Mill River church of the Brethren Saturday afternoon for Mrs. J. I. Branscom, 62, who died at heir home in Green Creek after a lingering illness. The Rev. S. L. Bowman, pastor, of the church, was in charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. Charles B. Trammel, of Columbus, Polk county. Mrs. Branscom had been an ac tive member of her church for 44 years. She is survived by her husband and five childen.—Ashe ville Citizen.
