C., FRIDAY, SEPT. 27, 1935 49 Years Service In The Ministry On Sunday morning, Sept. 29, at 11 o’clock at the Erskine Memo rial Congregational church, Dr. John Brittan Clark will have com pleted 49 years of service as Christian Minister. The past nine of these years have been spent in Tryon. Dr. Clark who resigned recently on account of his health, expects to attend the ser vice on Sunday morning end ex tend farewell greetings to his ccngregation. Dr. Lewis H. Keller, the supply minister, will preach on the 'splendid ministry of Dr. Clark, who served two Congrega tional churches in Brooklyn, N. Y., as pastor of Pilgrim Chapel and Lee Avenue Church; in Detroit, Mich., as pestor of Westminster Presbyterian church, and in Wash ington, D. C., as pastor of the First Presbyterian church Dr. and Mrs. Clark leave soon to make their temporary home with their sen, the Rev. David Cart wright Clark, rector of the Epis copal church, Emanuel, of Cum berland, Maryland. They plan to spend the winter in Florida and the summers at their home in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. J. R. Price Died This Morning Joe R. Price, well-known black smith and carpenter of Tryon died this morning about six o’clock at home near McClure Service Sta tion. Mr. Price was a native of Cooper Gap Township in Polk county and had lived here most of his life. His widow, a daughter Und other relatives survive. Palmer Gets CMTC Recommendation For Reserve Commission Out of the 800 young men from the two Carelinas who were dis charged from the Citizens Military Training Camp this summer at Ft. Bragg, N. C., Marion Palmer of Tryon was one of 23 recom mended for reserve commissions as Second Lieutenants of Field Ar tillery upoh the completion of cer tain studies in the Army Exten sion Course. These youths re turned to their homes in the best of physical condition as a result of the wholesome food, outdoor activity and regular hurs of sleep they had at Camp McArn. General Manus McCloskey, commander of the huge army post and Major Charles M. Busbee, under whose supervision the training of the youths was conducted, are well pleased with the results attained during the month of camp. Women Must Have License to Fish R. B. Williams, Polk county game protector, states that all female “fishermen” are also re quired by law, to obtain fishing licenses. Heretofore women were not required to have licenses to fish. He states that they are al so required to have hunting licen ses as well as male hunters. League warns against war in Ethiopia. Covenant is invoked to forbid either natidn starting strife.
