Continued on Back Page ——« John Smith Landrum, Sept. 27.—John Smith, 65, farmer of the Cross Keys sec tion of Polk county, N. C., died this morning after an illness of three days. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m., at the Mill Spring Baptist church, of which he was a member, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Byrd. Interment will fellow in the churchyard. Pallbearers will be G. E. Gos nell, W. E Green, Lowell Lowe, Mack Jackson, Lindsay Waldrop, Nesbitt Walkerr. Surviving are his widow, for merly Miss Nannie Horton; five sons, John, Ralph, Everett, Dewey, Albert; four daughters, Mrs. G. M. Skipper, Mrs. H. P. Williams, Mrs. M. C. Skipper, Miss Beatrice Smith, all of the Green’s Greek section; two brothers, Sam D. Smith, Spartanburg; Own en Smith, Columbus, N. C., three sis ters, Mrs. Martha Morton, Ches nee; Mrs. Mary Turner, Spartan burg; Mrs. Jennie Brown, Spar tanburg.—Spartanburg Herald. Stores Close At Nine Tonight During the summer months the Tryon stores remained open until 9:30 on Saturday evenings, but be ginning tonight they will start closing at 9 o’clock, according to an announcement firom the mer chants made on Friday. K. A. Bowen, chairman of the program committee of the Tryon Kiwanis club will have charge of thd club’s program cm Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Edgewood Inn. Carroll P.
