C., SATURDAY, OCT. 5, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Try on Entertainment Plans Approved By Tour Director Chairman C. J. Lynch of the Local General committee went to Charlotte on Friday to arrange with Coleman W. Roberts, director of the Carolinas Tour, to secure fo>r Tryon a longer stay of the Travel Agency officials when they come here on October 17th. Mr. Lynch received the following let ter from Mr. Roberts this morning: “After 1 returned from the pre liminary tour and began to check our time with the party furnishing the bus, we found that we could not make the speed that we anticipat ed ; however, since talking with you today, we are pushing* up our breakfast from 8 to 7 at AsheVille and reducing the time from one hour to forty-five minutes from Hendersonville to Tryon and tak ing fifteen minutes out of Hender sonville time, which will if every thing works all right, put us in Tryon not later than 4 o’clock. “It is very generous of you good £Tryon folks to agree to furnish in dividual cars to transport our party from Chimney Rock to* Try on via Hendersonville. This will add much to the pleasure of all our guests. We will arrange for the bus to go direct to Tryon and transfer the people from the bus to your cars. This will present an excellent opportunity for your local citizens to talk with our guests. If there should be any great delay in our reaching Tryon, we will, of course, take time next morning to show them Tryon, but I am. quite sure that we will be there by 4 o’clock. “Your plan to bring Mr. Carter -Continued on Page Two Rock House Art Gallery’s Second Annual Exhibition Mrs. B. King Couper’s second exhibition which opened Friday contains twenty-fdur portraits and landscapes that have never been shown before in Tryon. Among the local portraits are Mr. Edgar •Upton, little Ann Brundage, the artist’s daughter—Mrs. J. Bolling Reynolds—«ls a bride, Allen Jer vey, Miss Jeanne Huger, a charm ing picture in which she is posed as a dancer. The outstanding out-of-town por traits are pastel head of Miss Grace Hannahan of Charleston, S. C.; an oil portrait of Dr. William Heard Kilpatrick of the Teachers college, New York City. This is a very handsome presentment of the doctor in his academic robe. An other listed is a “portrait” of a 'man of great dynamic force. Then, the “Sailor Boy” which is repro duced in the New York Times’ rotogravure secern, is painted in a bold and striking manner. Tryon-Saluda Defeated Fletcher By School Reporter The Tryon-Saluda football team emerged . victorious in their first encounter of the season by the score 'yf 7-0 over the strong Flet cher team.
