C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879 APPLE SHOW NOW READY The building next to Slack’s Pharmacy has been beautifully decorated by the Garden club and the county agents and state special ist have been helping arrange some of the most beautiful apples ever grown fo>r the Polk County Apple Show, which will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday of this week. A number of public spirited citizens have contributed time and money to this first apple show to be held in Tryon. The premium list is as follows: Class A—Best three trays of any of the following varieties: Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Stay man, Winesaip', and any one of the ether variety. (Red Delicious or Stayman does not include the Str-lrking or other red strains of Delicious and Stayman). First—$2.00. Second—$1.00. , Third—50c. Class B—Best single tray of the ' following: Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Stayman, Winesap and any Qne other variety. (Red Deli cious, or Stay mam doe's not include the Starking or other red strains of Delicious and Stayman.) First—$1.00. Second—50c. Third—25c. Class C.—Best Plate (5 apples). Second—25c. ontinued on Back Pap*- — ! ROTARY CLUB AT OAK HALL The Try cm Rotary club will hold its regular meeting on Friday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall hotel. The meeting last week was in charge of Maj. Bernard Sharp and he gave a most interesting talk on the Italo-Ethiopian situation. His talk was illustrated with large maps. It was the opinion ctf the speaker that Mr. Mussolini would not gain anything if he defeated the Ethio pians and tcok their country, and g?ive as a possible reason fo>r the war increased prestige in Italy for Mussolini by increasing the size of the" Italian territory. The Major also gave an outline of the situa tion in which the o her countries are placed by the war. Edgewood Inn Destroyed By Fire Edgewood Inn, owned by Thomas Costa of Tryon and operated by R. W. Shelley, was completely de stroyed by fire Wednesday evening, about ten o’clock. The loss was only partially covered by insur ance, it is said. Mr. Costa has made no announcement of his plans for the future. The fire started under the roof from an unknown origin. A number of occupants of the second stdry lost practically all their clothes and personal ef fects. The fire made such rapid headway and the old fire truck stalled and bucked again during fire prevention time that it was -Continued on Back Page——»
