C., FRIDAY, OCT 11, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Apple Show Winners Were Named Today A blind man could tell where fche apple show was held in Tryon Poday. The delicious aroma was very evident on Trade street near Slack’s Pharmacy. The Tryon Garden club did a Wonderful job of decorating the building with evergreens and beautiful autumn al leaves. The apples arc as at tractive as any to be shown. Class A—Best three trays of any of the following varieties: Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Stay man, Winesap, and any one of the other variety. (Red Delicious or Stayman does not include the ; talrking or other red strains of delicious and Stayman). The winners are as follows, hrst, second, and third premiums in crder named: Red Delicidus—C. E. Sanders, K. J. Davis, G. H. Hollifield. Stayman—L. B. Gibson, K. J. Davis, G. H. Hollifield. V Golden Delicious — B. C. von ftahlden. Any other variety—B. C. von 1 Cahlden, L. B. Gibson. G. H. Hollifield. -Continued on Back Page——« Doctors to Meet Here Wednesday The Tenth District Medical Association of North Carolina will meet in Tryon on Wednesday, October 16, at 2 p. m., at the Parish House with talks by* prom inent physicians. The session will adjourn at 6:30 from supper at Melrose Lodge. Dr. A. J. Jervey is in charge of the arrangements here. Costa to Rebuild Thomas Costa, owner of the Edgewood Inn building which was destroyed by fire on Wednesday evening, stated today that he is making plans now for a bigger, better and more modern hotel with large enough dining room space to accommodate dancing and Large parties. Kiwanis at Landrum The Tryon Kiwanis club which has been meeting at Edgewood Inn will have to seek temporary quarters until. Edgewood Inn is rebuilt. Chairman R. H. Brady of the House Committee stated to day that the next meeting would be held in Landrum at the Im perial Hotel at 1 p. m. An in teresting meeting of the club was held at Edgewood Inn on Tuesday when C. M. Howes gave an in structive talk on the planting of trees in the proposed forest belt across the United States in the drought stricken area. He did not think the plan'practical. Apple Auction In order to help defray the ex penses of the Polk County Apple Shew now being held in Tryon to day and Saturday., some of the apples will bo auctioned off to the highest bidder on Saturday after noon at the show room by C. J. Lynch. Mr. Lynch is contribut ing his services and all who buy apples will treat themselves to the nicest apples grown anywhere and at the same time help encourage the growing of better apples in this county. Sale at 4 p. m.
