C., FRIDAY, NOV. 1, 1935 Vol. 8 Est. 1-31-28 Herbert E. Smith Passes Suddenly J^Ierfcart E. Smith, head of the <JoSroiina Stoker and Heating Co., passed away about 5 o’clock this morning from a weak heart as the result of a septic sore throat. Funeral arrangements have not been made pending the arrival of his mother from Greensboro. The deceased is survived by his widow and one daughter, Miss Jacqueline, 12, bf Shelby, by a former mar riage. Mr. Smith had made Tryon his headquarters for several years and operated his business in Ruther ' ford, Cleveland and Polk counties. New Chevrolets Have Arrived Here i^e new 1936 Chevrolet has wived and will be o*n display for Jxe first time Saturday morning at The Tryon Motor Company at the same time the new Chevrolet is in troduced to the public all over the United States at every Chevrolet dealer’s show rooms. Merchants Meet Tryon merchants and business men will meet tonight at 7:30 to set in motion their plans to put on a bigger trade program for Tryoh that will last during the fall season. Tryon’s stores are among the most up-to-deite in communities cf this size. Hallowe’en Carnival At School Tonight The annual Hallowe’en Carnival for the Tryon school children will be held tonight at the Tryon school auditorium at 8 o’clock. Admission 5 and 10 cents. Exciting booths have been arranged such as “The Chamber of Terrors”, “Balloon Bursting Contest,” “Fish Pond,” “Pinning Tail on Cat,” etc. HEADLINES Italian rioters stage outbreak against British. Helena, Mont., Oct. 31. — An earthquake which tore at an I'.rea 500 miles wide centered upon Helena today, killing at least two persons and injuring scores.
