As this is National Book I Week, he chose as his subject, “The History of Books”. He traced their development from the stone volumes created by prehistoric man, up to the thousands of books printed today. Dr. Taylor described some of the beautiful mural paintings in the Congressional library in Washing ton, which represent the various stages through which books have passed since the world began. He told how at first men built stone monuments to express their feel ings; then they draw complicated word-pictures on skins, and later •carved hieroglyphics in stone. Then came the discovery of papyrus, fol lowed by the beautiful printings of Catholic monks; the transfor mation of these printed letters into blocks of wood, and finally the mod ern printing press was discovered. * “Reading is worth while if it leads you on to something else,” said D|r. Taylor. “When you chaoice to read a book that you find inter esting, it should make you want to go on to something else on the same subject. If you do this, you will be educated before you know it.” The Tryon school plans to cele brate Book Week still further by a special chapel program Friday morning, in which many children "will take part.—Asheville Citizen. ‘Where’s Grandma’ At Saluda, N.
