C., FRIDAY, JAN. 3, 1936 Est. 1-31-28 Tryon Bank Shows Splendid Progress The statement of the Tryon Bank & Trust Co., published in Wednes day’s Trydn Daily Bulletin was a revelation of the tremendous growth the local bank is enjoying. The resources of the bank have in creased over $100,000 within the past six months. The June state ment shewed total resources at $429,000. The report on January 1 showed over $540,000. In the short history of the bank its re sources have increased over a half million dollars. The investments and service of the bank is winning the confidence and support of the public. Washington, Jan. 2.—Rep. Rob ert F. Rich, (R., Pa.) threatened today to object to the program calling for President Roosevelt to deliver his message to congress to morrow night. - -H Rich carry out. his threat it would force the Democratic majority to bring in a special rule permitting a recess until 9 p. m., when the President intends to speak. Rich indicated that he consider ed the President’s plan to speak in the evening a ‘’‘political move” and that he would dissent to any proposal fotr a, rXcess of the house during the afternoon.—Asheville Citizen. Washington, Jan. 2.—Leaders of 'orld War veterans’ groups announced tonight that a cash bonus bill with their joint indorse ment will be submitted to both houses when congress convenes to morrow. Edwards Rites Are Held From Church Landrum, J?in. 2.—Dill Ed wards, 68, died at his home here at 10:15 o’clock Wednesday morn ing: after an extended illness. Funeral services were to be held today at 2 p. m., at the Wesleyan Methodist church here with the Rev. Henry Barton officiating. In terment was to be in the Landrum cemetery. Mr. Edwards was a native of North Carolina and a member of the Bantist churc^i. Survivors are his wife the for mer Belle Owens; two sens, Alec and Rowan Edwards, Hickory, N. C.; five daughters, Mrs. A. L. Hendrix and Mrs. Aaron Sheehan, Landrum; Mrs. Lula Williams, Forest Citv, N. C.; Miss Lila Belle Edwards, Hickory, N. C.; and Miss Eula Edwards, Landrum; a brother, Charles Edwards, Lynn, N. C.; and a sister, Mrs. Ella Fester, Saluda, N. C.—Spartan burg Herald.
