C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3. 1879 Try on Boy Scouts Observe Scout Week The Tryon Scout Troop is observ ing National Scout Week this week. On Sunday February 9, the Scouts assisted in the various church services by acting as ushers. On Wednesday, February 12, a special program will be given at the school auditorium by the great Indian Seouter, Blue Sky Eagle. This program to be given at 10:15 a. m. On Friday, February 14, the Scout troop will have charge of the morning exercises at the school auditorium. This program will bring out some of the features of Scout work as first aid, knot tying, fire building by friction and flint and steel. Short talks will be giv en bv some of the Scouts. All Scouters in the community are asked to be present at these exercises. The entire community is cordially invited to attend. On Friday night, February 14, a Cburt of Honor will be conducted at the school building by the Pied mont Scout Executive R. M. Schiele. On Sunday, February 16, the Scout troop will attend church in a body in full uniform. This year they have been invited to attend the Congregational church. Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln will deliver the sermon. The Tryon Scout troop is very fortunate in having a number of the outstanding citizens extremely interested in the Scout work. Maj. W. A. Schilletter, who has been Scoutmaster for 11 years, has rend ered a very valuable service to the -Continued on Page Two Dr. Taylor to Address Teachers on Saturday Dr. George Farrand Taylor, teacher of Biblical Literature at Converse college, Spartanburg, S. C., will speak to the teachers of Polk county at their regular meet ing on Saturday, February 15. The subject which Dr. Taylor will speak on will be: ‘‘Shall WE Teach Our Children Good Habits?” after which an open discussion will be held among the teachers on this same subject. Rev. R. H. Kennington, Metho dist preacher of Mill Spring will conduct the devotional. The Association is fortunate in having Dr. Taylor and every teach er is urged to be present for his address. Auto Editors Visit Try on Oak Hall entertained yesterday John A. Jenkins, automobile edi tor of The Chicago Daily News, J. E. Bulger, managing editor of The Chicago Motor News and Coleman W. Roberts, president of the Carolina Motor club. Mr. Jen kins and Mr. Bulger are considered most influential in the direction of Western travel South. They are making a tour of the Carolinas, accompanied by Mr. Roberts, and while on this tour will release one story a day in their Chicago papers. Basketball Columbus and Tryon girls’ and boys’ basketball teams will play a I double-header at Columbus gymna sium on Wednesday night at 7:30.
