C., UNDER THE 4CT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3. 1879 F. P. Bacon Retires From Southern Mercerizing Co. F. P. Bacon, founder, and owner of the Southern Mercerizing Co., from 1909 to about 1921 when W. C. Ward joined him in partner ship and Mr. Bacon became presi dent and treasurer, sold his inter ests in the business on Monday to the China Grove Cotton Mill Co., of China Grove, N. C. Mr. Ward retains his interest in the company and will be in ac tive charge of the mill as vice rresident and treasurer. Jno. H. Butledge of China Grove succeeds Mr. Bacon as president; u. &. Blcis of Tryon will be the secre tary. The board of directors will consist of Jno. H. Rutledge, W. C. Ward, J. C. ' Beaver of China Grove, and A. L. Brown of Kannr polis. Th: new company will operate as the Southern Mercerizing Co., with paid in capital stock of $200,000 00. They will remodel the old plant and cottages and will build new additions including offices. New machinery is being in stalled to increase the present c^oacifcy from 1,000,000 to 5,000, 000 pounds and will require the addition of from 50 to 75 more em ployees. The Southern Mercerizing Co., under Mr. Bacon had a remarkable growth from a small plant at Lynn to the present modern institution as a leader in its field, ranking as one of the largest industries of its kind in the world. This business has meant much in the development --Con tinned on Pa$a Drama Fortnightly Postponed 2 Weeks “The Wurtzell Flummery” di rected by Mrs. Eric Lubeck and “Two Crooks and a Lady” under the direction of Dr. Chas. G. Sewell—these two plays which the Drama Fortnightly were to pre sent on March 4th and 5th, are postponed for two weeks. How ever, on Wednesday, March 4th, at 8:30 o’clock Miss Abbott of Drama tic Department of Converse college will bring a group of four Con verse girls and three Spartanburg men and put on “Dangerous Corn ers” by J. B. Priestly. One per formance end a preference of seats will be given to those who hold subscription tickets. Admission 50c. Buy Near Here Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Nash of Union, S. C., have bought the G. W. Metcalf property on the old Melrose-S?luda road. 46 acres. They will use it as a summer heme. Sal 3 through G. Harrison Bridgeman. County Republicans Will Meet In March Chairman Ed Newman of the Polk County Republican Executive committee, has issued a call for township m?r+ir,'Y“? cn March 9, and for a county convention on March 11, at the courthouse in Co lumbus at 7:30 p. m., for the pur pose of electing delegates to the state convention and to transact all other business in its province.
