Mrs. Etta Henderson, 77, wife
of G. W. Henderson of Melvin Hill
community of this county, came to
Tryon today on business and it
was her first visit here during the
54 years that she has lived in the
county. She is a native of Cleve
land county and came to Polk
countv in 1881 when she married
Mr. Henderson, who was born on
his present home place 80 years
ago and has lived there ever since
with the exception of about four
years. He has cut his third set of,
teth. In coming to Tryon Mrs,
Henderson passed through Colum
bus and it was her first view of
the county seat. Her brother, R.
T. Bryant, of Henrietta accom
ied her to Tryon.
^I^lanville at Rotary
E. Perry Manville was the in
tresting speaker at the Try on Ro
tary club on Friday at Oak Hall
hotel, and gave a brief history of
the development of the life insur
ance business. Mr. Manville out
lined that life insurance originated
in England as an off-shoot of
Marine Insurance and 'traced its'
growth in this country from the
year 1759 to .the present. He
brought out that the institution of
life insurance has been likened to
a structure-mathematics laid the
foundation and character built the
roof. Life insurance and the
value of annuities as investments
were portrayed with the aid of :

Costa Gives Suppers
, To Worthy Causes
Thomas Costa has kindly offered
to give the proceeds one night each
month, from the Thursday evening
suppers, served in the dining room
of the Hotel Tryon to the Garden
club, to be dispensed by them to
various philanthropic undertakings.
March 5th will be the first Gar
den club night but after that it
will be the second Thursday in each
month. The supper is 50 cents
and reservations must be in the
hotel Thursday morning.
In making this offer Mr. Costa
is continuing a custom he began
in Cleveland where he turned over
the proceeds of a flower stall in
the uptown market .one day each
month to the Cleveland Garden
club by whom they were dispensed
to various charities. Among other
things Mr. Costa started a milk
fund for underfed children.

Grant Miller Property ?
Sold to New Englanders
Prof, and Mrs. Raymond Dodge
of New Haven, Conn., who are
guests at Melrose Lodge, have
bought the Grant Miller home place
in the Valley. The sale was made
through C. J. Lynch, local realtor.
Civic Drive Tuesday
- The Chamber of Commerce com
mittee to solicit funds will call on
the business people and others on
Tuesday in order to get sufficient
funds to'"carry on the year’s work.
The committee will be headed by
