C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879 Columbus Girls Saluda Boys Win In Tournament Columbus girls defeated Green Creek girls 24 to 23 in the final |ame of the Polk County Basket ball Tournament Saturday night. Saluda boys won over the Sunny View boys by a score of 26 to 13. Following the games the trophies were awarded the winning teams by Supt. P. S. White. The annual custom of auction ing of the basketball used in the final game was carried out during the evening. Coach Joe White of Columbus was high bidder, paying $6.01 for the ball. Green, 66, farmer of Polk county, near the South Carolina line, died Saturday afternoon at his home He had been in declining health for some time, but serious ly ill only about two weeks. Funeral services were conduct ed at Peniel Baptist church, Sun day afternoon at 3 o’clock. He is survived by five brothers, Lewis and Harvey Green, Quallan, Texas, Beecfier Green, Harlingen, Texas, Joe Green, Oklahoma, Doc Green of Polk county; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Smith, Lexing ton, Okla., and Mrs. Matt Hal-1, Tryon, route 1.
