LONDON LETTER, NO. 5
-Continued from Pape One
thing of it, I am sure there is a
mroal adorning this tale.
Flat racing has begun. The
Lincolnshire is tomorrow. On Fri
day, however, there is that great
est of all steeplechases, the Grand
National. Miss Dorothy Page’s
Golden Miller, trained by O. An
thony, is the favourite at 11 to 2.
The Ideal Home Exhibition was
opened at Olympia today. One of
the many attractions is a repro
duction of Mae West’s bedroom!
Along side of it is a monk’s cell!
Who says we have no sense of
humour?
Elizabeth Bergner has been op
erated upon for appendicitis, and
Sir James Barrie’s eagerly await
ed nlay has had to be postponed.
It was due to open in Manchester
a week or two ago, and heavy
losses have been incurred.
The season has started. Debut
antes of every size, shape, and
colour are now hurling themselves
round and round each other’s ball
rooms, while their mothers, re
splendant in black satin, sit pray
ing by the band, or else eat seven
suppers in swift succession to
charm away the interminable night
hours. They have four months of
this ahead of them, with a short
breathing space at Easter!
It’s a great life if you don’t
weaken, isn’t it?
Yrs Sincerely
Virginia Graham.
