Schilletter of the Polk County Chapter of the American Red Cross, has received the following telegram from Wash ington, D. C., national hedaquart ers: ‘W. A. Schilletter, “Chairman Polk County Chapter American Red Cross, “Tryon, N. C. “Reports which have come to us today indicate great need to tor nado suffereres in Tupelo, Miss., Gainesville, Ga., and several coun ties in Alabama, Georgia, Tennes see, South Carolina. Keports still incomplete. These in addition to devastating tornadoes in Greens boro, North Carolina, Cordele, Ga., and other Georgia counties last week create a serious need for re lief funds over and above those previously requested of you. It is essential that carefully planned and vigorous campaign for funds be started in your Chapter with out delay, your Chapter quota is $350 this over and above previous flood relief quotas. Advise action you hre taking promptly. “Richard Allen.” Storm Strikes Dixie Over 300 people reported dead as result of tornado which struck Tupelo, Miss., Gainesville, Ga., and Anderson, S. C. $8,000,000.00 damage estimated. Factories, stores, houses destroyed. Fire al so does heavy damage at Gaines ville.
