UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3. 1879 Band Concert The first concert of the Tryon High School after only four months training was enthusiastically re ceived on Thursday evening at the Tryon school auditorium. Many music lovers expressed their de light over the remarkable perfor 1 mance of these young people who have made so much progress in so short a time. The band is directed l:y Put Garnett, conductor of the Spartanburg High School band. Mr. Garnett is a native of Texas and was trained under a member of Sousta’s band. He is an inspira tion to* the members^yof the Tryon band. The concert last night was presented for the purpose of rais ing money to purchase equipment and musical instruments. Anyone ha’ving a musical instrument to donate or sell cheap might dispose of it satisfactorily by helping Try on build a band. Market Saturday The Easter Mountain Market and tea will be held on Saturday at the Katherine Beatson Health House near Mill Spring. Reserva tions for the tea should be made with Mrs. F. P. Bacon. Anyone having passenger room in their autos may notify Mrs. H. H. Par melee, and those not having a way to go may also notify Mrs. Par melee. Hotel Tryon served 84 guests Thursday night at the family night supper which was donated by Mr. Shelley and Mr. Costa to the Gar den club who in turn divided with St. Lukes hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Shelley, managers of the hotel served the large crowd very eff ciently and the guests expressed their pleasure over the service. Big Hound Show The Tryon Hound Show held in conjunction with the Tryon Horse Show every year, is one of the largest of its kind in the United States and it is very favorably re ported in leading hunt magazines over the country. Maneger C. W. Ballenger is expecting one of his best shows this year. Judge Alex Parrish of Berea, Ky., one of the outstanding authorities on dogs in America, will judge the Hound Show here on April 15. Storm Relief $44.51 Funds in answer to an appeal for $350 made by the Red Cross to aid storm and flood sufferers have reached $44.51 according to a statement by Treasurer J. B. Hes ter, today. This leaves a balance of over $300 yet to be raised by Polk county people to help their neighbors in Anderson, Greenville and Tupelo. Local receivers for this fund are Miss Marjorie Capps at Missildine’s, Mrs. Cathey at Blue Ridge Weavers, Mrs. Vining at The Bulletin office or to Treas urer J. B. Hester. Burgess for Senate Mayor John R. Burgess of Co lumbus announces in today’s Bul letin his candidacy for the State Senate. Mr. Burgess was in the campaign six years ago and came out high man in the first primary with C. P. Rogers and W. K. Mc Lean. In the run off Mr. McLean won. Mr. Burgess is the first to announce publicly for this office.
