C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3. 1879 Red Gross Meeting The Polk County Chapter of the American Red Cross will meet on Tuesday, April 14 at 5 p. m. in the study of the Rev. C. P. Burnett t the Parish House. All persons ho paid for a membership this fear are invited to be present and take part in the meeting. Wilkins for Senate W. Y. Wilkins, formerly sheriff and tax collector of Polk County, announces in today’s Bulletin his candidacy for the office of State Senator from Polk county. Mr. Wilkins had been mentioned as a probable candidate for some time. Kiwanis Tuesday W. B. Weigel will be the chief speaker*1 at the Kiwanis club on Tuesday just before he begins another trip to different parts of the world. K. A. Bowen will be in large of the program. Horse Show Ball The annual Horse Show Ball will be held on Tuesday evening at Oak Hall hotel with Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Richards as host and hostess for the Tryon Riding and Hunt club. The Buccaneers orchestra of Asheville will furnish the music for the occasion. Ballenger Out For Register of Deeds C. W. Ballenger of Tryon is a candidate for re-election to the of fice of Register of Deeds of Polk County. Mr. Ballenger has served in this capacity for the past two years. His announcement appears in this issue of the Bulletin. Lunches at Show The Horse Show Lunch commit tee, headed by Mrs. F. P. Bacon will provide adequate lunches for everybody at Harmon Field on Horse Show Day. These lunches will be well-balanced and will in clude dessert and coffee. A smal ler lunch consisting of beans, roll end coffee will be provided for those not caring for the larger lunch. House Burned The four-room house of H. L. Griswold of Landrum Route One in Polk county, was destroyed by fire on Saturday night about 12:30 just about an hour after Mr. Gris wold had gone to bed. He was awakened by the roaring of the flames and barely had time to es cape being burned. His truck by the side of the house was also de stroyed.
