THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 1936 Annual Meeting of St. Lukes Hospital At the annual meeting of the Beard of Trustees of St. Lukes Hospital held on Tuesday evening, April 21 Julian Calhoun was re elected president; Jaimes C. Kim berly was re-elected vice-president. H. L. Shelnutt was elected treas ure and Samuel A. Bingham, sec retary. Volney T. Barnette was elected assistant treasurer and assistant secretary. New members elected to the Board were Rev. Charles G. Sew all and Ralph C. Erskine. The members of the Board are Julian Calhoun, James C. Kimber ly, H. L. Shelnutt, Samuel A. Bing ham, Mrs. Bernard Sharp, F. P. Bacon, Bishop F. H. Touret, Rev. Charles G. Sewall a(nd Ralph C. Erskine. ®Men Rescued From Mine Early Today The two men who have been im prisoned in a Nova Scotia mine for ten days as the result of a cave in, were rescued about 12 o’clock last night. They were very weak from Hunger and exposure. The radio has been keeping the world informed of progress of the res cue parties made up of doctors, government officials and miners. Every effort possible was made to save the men. A third m®m died after a week in the mine. The men were placed on stretch ers, and rushed to an emergency hospital. They were very brave and cheerful despite, suffering. I NEWSPAPERING IN HEAVEN I By Noah Hollowell in Hendersonville Times-News Sam Wood, who retired from newspapering in Tryon a few years ago bub who had been itch ing more to get back in the game than he scratched to get out (as is the case with most of them), died in Tryon last Friday. Sam left us with one appointment un filled. He was to tell the weekly publishers of Western Carolina Saturday night ho'w he would pub lish a newspaper if he were back in the game, into which he hoped to land eventually. “Sam’s going while in the prime of manhood has deeply impressed me. I was looking forward to hearing his speech with keen in terest. “A whole lot less is known about heaven than has been said and written about it. Who knows but that at the time he was sched uled to be telling the boys about the “ideal” newspaper he dream ed of in this troubled world, he will be consulting with ai heaven ly editor-in-chief or managing editor about some journal “over there.” “If any of us happen to get to heaven and we go with the least trace of our natures here, what newspaper man would be content without the flash of headlines? And who wouldn’t like to report on the comings and goings of the heavenly subjects, the colorings of their wings, the tone of their harps and the following of their hbbbies—*aill the sweets of mun dane life with none of the bitters, such as meeting Saturday’s pay roll, paper bills, and the like?
