Evsins, wife of Professor Alexander Evans of the Botany department of Yale Univer sity has purchased the R. 0. An drews property on Warrior drive in the Valley and also some land ad joining, owned by Miss Frances Hudson. The sale was made thru G. Harrison Bridgeman. Mrs. Evans and daughter, Mrs. A. Torelli of New Haven are guests at Hotel Tryon where they will be until Thursday when they return to New Haven to make plans for building a home on their new property. Professor Evans has been teaching at Yale since 1892 and will retire in June. If they do not go abroad Prof, and Mrs. Evans will return to Tryon this summer to build. PT' Judges For Flower Show Announced Judges for the Try on Flower Show to be held on Friday, Mey 1, at the Parish House have been an nounced as follows: Mrs. C. C. Carr and Mrs. John Izard of Ashe ville. The judges for the specimen classes will be Mrs. Henry Criegler of Greenville, S. C., and Mrs. L. J. Blrke of Spartanburg, S. C. A change has been made in the dimensions of the shadow boxes. These will be 18 inches wide by 24 inches high. The show will be held from 2 to 6:30 p. m. Admission 15c. Children exhibitors in class 15 will be ad mitted free. E. W. Upton, 85 “Happy Birthday” to Mr. Edgar W. Upton of Try on, who was 85 years old Monday. Other birthdays on Monday were that of Mr. John Nelson Jackson, Sr. 7-?, and the Rev. L. J. Keels . . . ? Mr. Upton was born in what is n-ow the city of Peabody, Mass., named for George Peabody, who was also born there. Educated as an electrical engineer, Mr. Upton has been the manufactuier of a number of things such as watches, thermometers, glue, etc., and has lived an active and useful life. He is very much alert mentally, in good health and keenly interested in life and world affairs. He made his first airplane flight when 80 years oM from Spartanburg to At lanta. He says it* is the most com fortable way to travel and next to that is a trip in a sailing vessel which he rr .Ut across the Atlantic and back. He has made his home in Tryon for the past 15 years. He first came to Polk county two years prior as superintendent of the Episcopal mission near Mill Spring on the place where is now located the Katherine Beatson Health House. Mr. Upton has six children living, five grand children and one great grandchild. Big Crowd at Show Tryon’s Theatre was packed full Monday night at the show of the “Voice of Bugle Ann” sponsored by the Gatrden club for the benefit of Pearson’s Falls. Approximately $100 was cleared for this good wcrk. The committee wishes to ex press their gratitude to everyone who assisted in making the show a success.
