C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879 London Letter, No. 7 5, Montagu Square W. 1. pril 24th. ear Mr Vining, I have just returned from a visit to Norfolk, one of England’s flat test and chilliest counties, where I have been endeavoring to play golf on a seaside course. The wind, however, was so strong, that the ball usually fell off the tee before I hit it, thus going considerably farther than if I had! I encount ered a variety of weathers—sun shine, rain, and snow. One day I played tennis on a grass court, and the next day I made a snow man, and the next I lay basking on the lawn. It is very difficult, under the circumstances, not to become irriitwble. The cold seems doubly penetrat ing, as we are all wearing our Spring clothes, and are supposed to be sauntering down Oxford fctreet with the warm sun in our "aces. Instead of which we battle our way round corners against a strong head wind, holding our hats on with one hand, and wearing woollies under our coats, so that we bulge! There is the usual after-Easter lull in social events. Many people are still away, either on cruises or in their country homes. The traffic congestion is not quite so acute. Mr Chamberlain has brought in a depressing Budget — another threepence in the pound, and an extra tax on tea. CONGREGATIONAL—11 a.m. Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln, pastor, preaching on “Religious Earth quakes.” Sunday school at 9:45, Nelson Jackson, Jr., superinten dent. CATHOLIC—St. John’s church. Holy Mass every Sunday at 8 o’clock. Father Florian. celebrant. The Molly Morris Circle of the Methodist church will meet on Monday, Msy 4, at 8 p.m., with Mrs. Morgan Morris.
