I have just passed my seventieth birthday and the time has come for me to lay down my responsibilities as Rector of this Parish. Accordingly I here with hand you my resignation, to lake effect November 1, 1936. This will give you ample time in which to secure my successor, and also allow me an opportunity to com plete arrangements for my retire ment. It is with the deepest satisfac tion that I realize that this retire men from active service does not mean the termination of our close ^md friendly intercourse. Mrs. JSuinctt and I will still be mem bers of the Parish and enjoy the many friends we have made during these happy years. With all my heart I want to ex press my appreciation of the kind ness and co-operation I have re ceived from you and the other members of the Parish during these fourteen years. May the richest blessing of our Heavenly Father rest upon you and the work of the Parish. Affectionately, your Friend and Rector, (Signed) C. P. Burnett. Tryon, May 6th, 1936. Cowan’s Store Has Third Anniversary Like a John Wannamaker or Horatio Alger story reads the growth of Cowan's Grocery, which is celebrating this week its third anniversary. Beginning three years ago with what looked like a handful of groceries, Mr. Cowan started running 30c ads in The Bulletin and drummed up custo mers, then he installed a telephone and put in a delivery service with a mule and cart, soon he changed to a second-hand truck, increased his merchandise and added a meat market. Not long ago he bought a new Chevrolet truck and bought half interest in the Tryon Cafe. He kecrs an up-to-date store well stocked with a full line of grocer ies, fruits, vegetables and meats. He feels now that he can serve your food any way—at the store, delivered to your home, or prepared and cooked at his restaurant next door. At Scouter Convention Dr. A. J. Jervey, Nelson Jack son, Jr., and Seth M. Vining at tended the Piedmont Scouter con vention at Hickory Thursday eve ning. Mr. William C. Wessel, a director of the National Scout or ganization was the chief speaker and he urged the promotion of an organization called Cubs for the younger boys of pre-Scout age from 9 to 12. There are 3,GOO,000 boys of this group needing guid rnce in “gang” activities. Offi cials are beginning to realize that it is equally as important as the Boy Scout movement and will be, the stepping stone for younger lovs into Scout work.
