C., TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 193G Scout Leaders Will Meet This Week-end More than 100 leaders repre senting Boy Scout troops and com mittees of the Piedmont Council, Boy Scouts of America will join together in a camp conference at the Piedmont Boy Scout Camp at Lake Lanier on June 13th and 14, the event being a part of the year ly training program of the organ ization. The conference will open with supper at six o’clock on Saturday, June 13th and will conclude with noon dinner on Sunday, June 14. Camp-fire pregrams and training and recreational events will be carried out. On Sunday morning, Judge Bismarck Capps, president of the Piedmont Boy Scout Coun cil will conduct a short devotional service. Scout leaders in the counties of Gaston, Cleveland, Lincoln, Ruth erford, Polk, Iredelll, Alexander, 'Na Id well, Catawba, Burke and JcDowell have been invited and those who plan to attend have b en asked to make reservations with the Scout Executive of the Piedmont Counci. Vacation Bible School Starts Here Monday The Community Bible School conducted the past two season's at the Erskine Memorial church, v. ill start again on Monday morn ing with a larger staff than ever. Teachers will include two field workers, Dr. Lincoln, Miss Eliza beth Avant, and Miss Ruth Lin oin. All children invited. Dies From Wounds Received in a Saw Mill Accident Sat James Taylor Whitesides, 22, son of Mr. Taylor Whitesides of Mill Spring died this morning at 7:BO at St. Lukes hospital after several days suffering as the re sult of injuries received on Sat urday morning when he was hit on head with piece of wood flying from the saw, it is said. Funeral arrangements had not been completed this morning, but it is planned to have the services at White Oak church in Mill Spring with the postor, Rev. C. B. Trammel, officiating. The deceased leaves his wife, one child and many other relatives. 90 Gallons Whiskey Confiscated in Tryon State and Federal officers were out early this morning to capture three men, destroy three stills, and to confiscate two automobiles and about 90 gallons of corn liq uor. The stills were destroyed in the neighborhood of Hogback mountain. One of the cars con tained 85 gallons of liquor and the other 5 gallons, it is reported. One car tried to out run the law and took the side road back of Oak Hall, running from Melrose Ave. to Landrum Road, but it ran in a ditch. The men were taken to Greenville and the whis key to Asheville for th° Federal court’s disposal.
