Mrs. 0. C. Feagan, 52, died at
her home in Columbus Sunday
'flight at 12:30 after several weeks

Funeral services will be held on
Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Colum
bus Baptist church and the burial
service at the Presbyterian ceme
tery. Rev. Chas. B. Trammel and
Rev. D. M. McGeachy will officiate
at the services.
The deceased is survived by her
husband, her father, C. C. Hamp
ton of Hendersonville; the follow
ing children, Mrs. E. N. Bulick
and Mrs. R.F. Matthews of Detroit
Mary, Grace. Gray, Charlie and
Lucile F-eagi .• of Columbus. ;also
the following brothers and sisters:

ryon Defeats Canton
Tiyon defeated the Canton
Blues 8 to 6 in an interesting
game Saturday afternoon at Har
mon Field featured by the hitting
of Jim Fisher who out of five
times at bat made two home runs,
a double and a single. He would
have made at least another double
but the Canton center fieldetr
made a good catch near the horse
show ring. Sellers Edwards pitch

First Bonus Bond
John M. Camp of Mill Spring,
Route 3 received the first Veterans
Bonus in Polk County this morn
ing. Bonds will average $600.
1 Dead; 14 Injured
From Auto Wreck
Funeral services were to be held
this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the
Mill Spring Baptist church for
Horace Waldrop, 23 of East Flat
Rock who with 14 others was se
riously injured Saturday after
noon when a truck carrying a
load of picnickers overturned be
tween Columbus and Mill Spring
while enroute to Lake Adger.
The deceased was a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Lynn Waldrop, formerly
of Mill Spring. Mrs. Palmer She
han, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lynn Waldrop was also injured.
All the injured persons were ta
ken to St. Lukes hospital in Tryon
and were reported doing nicely
this morning.
Occupants of the truck state that
the machine hit a bump in the
road; the front of the truck
was knocked upward and when it
settled the gears locked and the
truck overturned down a 10-foot
fill. B. A. Quails was driving the
truck at the time.
Studying Mexico
Mr. Loring Chase, Miss Kath
leen Rowles and Miss Elizabeth
Avant opened the Vacation Bible
school this morning. The study
will be largely concerning Mexico
—customs, religion and govern
ment. Handiwork showing the in
dustries of Mexico will be taught
along with the study. A Mexican
village will be constructed by the
students. All children of the com
munity are invited to attend.
