C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3,1879 Masonic Picnic At Lake Tonight ^'he Polk County Masons will celebrate St. John’s Day this eve ning with a picnic at Lake Lanier docks in front of tha Inn. An at tractive program has been ar ranged and it promises1 to be one of the most interesting events of its kind ever held in the commu nity. All Masons and their fami lies are invited. The Lake Lanier Inn is also serving a special sup per for non-Masons who care to eat at the Inn and have the privi lege of watching the Masonic pro gram from the Inn. Revival Services Rev. Nathan Chapman is con ducting revival services every flight this week at the1 Try on Sec tj Baptist church. The public ^invited to attend these services. Plan Skeet Here R. H. Cooner of Charleston, S. C., and Ernest Kerhulas of Tryon are looking for a shooting site pre paratory to organizing a skeet club for Tryon so that all who love trap shooting may enjoy this popular sport which is held at Pinehurst, Asheville and other resort towns. Judge and Mrs. T. E. Brown of Washington, D. C., are guests for a month at, Hotel Tryon. Judge Brown was formerly head of the judicial district of the Panama Canal Zone. He and Mrs. Brown have already fallen in love with Tryon. At Kiwanis Tuesday Three speakers entertained the Tryon Kiwanians on Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Hotel Tryon. Attorney M. R. McCown, who returned a few days ago from a fishing trip to Georgetown, S. C., with J. Hertz Brown and D. M. Fraser of Spar tanburg, gave an interesting Re count of his visit to J. Foster Bourne’s Fishing & Hunting lodge on South Island, 16 miles out of Georgetown, S. C. Mr. McCown not only told a fascinating fishing tale about the big channel bass they caught, but he brought two of the big fish back with him. They weighed over 30 pounds each. All the fishremen had a delightful time with good catches. Mr. Mc Cown told of the interesting neonle who go to this place to fish in the summer and to hunt ducks and deer in winter. Tom Yawkey, owner of the Boston Red Sox, has a home on the island. A good many of the earlier wealthy rice planters of South Carolina also had homes on the island which is rich in its history as well as hunt ing and fishing attractions. Robert G. Baldwin who has been going to Florida the past I'm years gave an interesting account of the growth of Florida and particularly Miami which is flooded with tour ists, gamblers and people seeking rest. Mr. Baldwin stated that Miami lighted at night and reflect ed in the water presents one of the most beautiful skylines in America. Loring Chase of Middlebury col lege, gave a brief picture of Ver mont and its chief crops, marble, maple sugar and tourists. Mr. -Continued from Page One
