POLK MASONS
CELEBRATE
The Polk county Masons of Co
lumbus, Saluda, Tryon and Mill
Spring and their families enjoyed a
picnic and entertaining program
on Wednesday evening at the Lake
Lanier Inn docks in celebration of
St. John’s Day. The delicious i
picnic was all that could be said
for any picnic. The entertaining
program was directed by W. E.
Kilpin. All the music and speeches
were broadcast over L. G. McEl
henny’s loudspeaker sound system.
Miss Jeenne Huger gave several
beautiful dances, Miss Edna
Hague gave two delightful Mason
ic readings. Tip Jervey gave a
thrilling aquaplane ride behind the
wWedy motor boat of C. J. Lynch
Iwvho also with the assistance of N.
B. Jackson, gave all the guests a
delightful boat ride over the lake.
Chief Blue Sky Eagle, of the Pied
mont Boy Scout camp gave some
fascinating Indian dances that
kept the crowd spellbound. Inter
esting talks were made by P. S.
White, J. Lee Lavendar, W. A.
Schilletter, C. J. Lynch and Dr. C.
Arthur Lincoln. The concluding
number on the entertaining pro
gram was the enjoyment of square
dancing a^c-m^anicd by music
from a Green Creek string band.
A vote of thanks was given to Mr.
•' r l Mrs. M. A. Richards for their
courtesy in extending the use of
Lake Lanier and the Inn.
Vacation Bible School
Closes Friday P. M.
Two very successful weeks of
a Vacation Bible School, under the
direction of Mr. Loring Chase,
senior in Middlebury college, Miss
Kathleen Rowles, a student in
Illinois Teachers college, Miss
Elizabeth Avant, graduate of Win
throp college and Miss Ruth Lin
coln, a student in Rollins college,
will close on Friday evening at
7:30 with a regular program show
ing the handiwork in colloboration
with the studies. The work of the
school has been largely concerning
the country and people of Mexico.
The students have carved Mexican
people end built houses and a
village. These things will be on
display at the cosing meeting t>
be held at Erskine Memorial
church this coming Friday eve
ning. The public is cordially in
vited to attend.
Fish Fry Tonight
The Wesley Brotherhood of the
Methodist church will serve a fish
fry this evening at Hsrmon Field
at 6 o’clock. 35c per plate. Benefit
of church.
