C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3,1879 Boys Club Gets A Good Start The Tryon Boys club opened this morning under the direction of Dr. George Farrand Taylor with an enrollment of 3.9 boys. After the organization work was complet ed the boys enjoyed a number of interesting games. Manual train ing will begin Thursday morning. The boys will go on their first hike P’riday morning, returning by 4 o’clock. Each boy will provide his lunch. In the organization work | Thurston Arledge will teach air plane making; Edward Manville, printing; and Edward Sayre, weaving. Republican Club Will Be Formed The young Republicans of Polk county will meet Thursday night at 8 o’clock at the Columbus court house for the purpose of complet ing an active organization to pro mote the work of the Republican party in Polk county. Columbus Stores Close Thursdays The following stores and the postoffice of Columbus will close fheir nlaces of business every Thursday afternoon during the summer beginning at 1 o’clock on Thursday, Ju’y 2: Columbus Hard ware & Grocery, Owens Cash Store, Ramsey’s General Merchan dise end Post Office. To Baptize 24 Reviv&l services closed Saturday at the Warrier Mountain Chapel and 24 people were added to the the church. The baptism Ser vice will be held Sunday after noon, July 5, at 3 o’clock at a creek near the church. Rev. Broughton Strickland, the pastor, of Chesnee, S. C., will officiate. Saluda Bible School Starts Next Monday The Community Bible School of Saluda will begin Monday morn ing, July 6, 81 9:15, at the Saluda school building with a faculty of eight people including Rev. 6. V. Armstrong, Mt. Floyd Johnson, Miss Dorothy Hipp, Miss Eliza beth Smith, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Randolph and Miss Dorothy Strauss. Baseball Game Here Saturday, July 4th' Tryon and Haalewood baseball teems will celebrate the Fourth of July with a baseball game at Harmon Field Saturday afternoon, about 2 o’clock. These two teams 8 re about evenly matched and a good game is anticipated. Heat record again broken over the Southern states. Cooler weather predicted for this area to day with possible thunder showers in tl*e afternoon. r
