C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3,1879 UNOFFICIAL RETURNS GIVE BACON 21 VOTE MAJORITY OVER WILKINS The unofficial returns of Polk ) County’s Democratic run-off pri mary held on Saturday, July 4th give former Senator F. P. Bacon of Tryon a majority of 21 votes over former sheriff W. Y. Wilkins jn their race for the nomination to the office of State senator in the 27th district composed of Hender son, Polk, Cleveland, McDowell and Rutherford counties. Bacon carried all the precincts in the county except Tryon and Saluda. The total votes in all the precincts gave Bacon 1,307 and Wilkins 1,286. The official result will not be known until the County Board meets this week and certi fies to the official count. The vote by precincts is given, below. Saturday’s primary is giv en in black face figures. The first primary is given in light figures in order for interested readers to make comparisons. The vote of Mr. Burgess in the first primary is also given for it was from his supporters that both candidates hoped to win. The forces of both candidates worked hard for over 300 more votes were cast in the second primary than were cast in the first. The total vote cast for Bacon, Burgess and Wilkins in the first primary was 2,217; but for Bacon and Wilkins in the sec ond primary a total of 2,593 votes were cast. Burgess 227 21 100 13 63 61 485 In the state primary Clyde Hoey of Shelby was apparently nomi nated over Dr. McDonald for gov ernor by approximately 50,000 majority. The total vote from 1733 of the 1858 precincts give Hoey 259,902 votes and McDonald 207,567 votes. Horton is leading Grady for Lieutenant - governor and Eure is nominated over Wade for secretary of Ftate.
