Tryonites Escape From Spanish Rebels Mrs. Margaret Culkin Banning, noted author of Tryon, who is tour ing Europe with her son and daughter, was in San Sebastian, Spain last week ago attending church service when communistic soldiers entered the church. The Bannings hid behind the church pews until the soldiers left the building and then rushed for the French border. They were stop ped by different soldiers a number of times while enroute and search ed to see if they were carrying guns. Kiwanians Plan Annual Meeting At Lake Resort Officers and members of the Greer, Tryon, Rutherfordton and Forest Citv Kiwenis clubs have been invited to attend the annual Spartanburg Kiwanis picnic on Thursday evening at Rainbow Labe. An informs 1 program of recrea tion and entertainment has been planned by the inter-club relations and the agricultural committees of ive local club. Between 40 and 50 visitors ere expected and the total attendance is expected to be 200 or more. Th* regular luncheon meeting at the Cleveland hotel will not be held this week.
