C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3,1879 (The Smallest Daily Newspaper In The World) Vol. 9, Est. 1-31-28 Funeral Services for Mr. John Orr, Today Funeral services for one of Tryon’s most beloved citizens, John kOrr, who passed away Saturday Pafternoon at the age of 94 follow ing several days illness, will be held this afternoon at 4:30 o’clock at the Erskine Memorial Congre gational Church with the pastor, Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln, officiating assisted by the Rev. C. P. Burnett, rector of the Church of the. Holy Cross, Episcopal. The pallbearers will be: Active pallbearers will be Nel son Jackson, Jr., Ralph S. Jackson. Ralph Erskine, B. L. Ballenger, Fred E. Swann, Dr. M. C. Palmer. Honorary pallbearers: Dr. E. E. Missildine, L. A. Avant, C. M. Howes, C. P. Rogers A. T. Whit tlesey, Dr. Earle Gradv, J. N. Jackson, F. P. Bacon, George H. Holmes, W. H. Stearns, George E. Bell, J. B. Hester, Sr., C. W. Ballenger. ■ Mr. Orr was born in Lowell, in 1842 of Scotch parentage. In his youth he was employed in Clinton, Mass., as a building en gineer, but came south 52 years rrd as the construction engineer of the American Missionary asso ciation. He had made his home in Tryon for the past 40 years with v; s wife, the former Miss Alice Topping. For 20 years he was • • well known business man here, Hways active in church life and in supporting worthy causes. C., MONDAY, AUG. 17, 1936 Tryon Defeated By Sayles Club, 3 to 1 Tryon, Aug. 15.—Out hit, 8 to 5, Sayles Bleacheries managed to edge out Tryon in an Industrial league game here this afternoon, 3 to 1. A Fine Donation A generous donation has been secured for our camp through the efforts of Vice-President Nelson Jackson, Jr., and Major B. Sharp, chairman of our camping commit tee, in the form of a large cook ing range. The donation was made by Mrs. Marion MacAdow of Brampton, Mich., and Tryon. This range is large enough to cook for 250 people and worth from S3OO to S4OO. It will be used next summer and plans for the camp call for the enlargement of the mess hall and kitchen, and the building of additional cabins so that a larger number of boys may be accommodated. —Gastonia Gazette. A bill of indictment against Martin Moore, 23-year-old negro, and confessed slayer of Helen Clevenger, at an Asheville hotel on July 16, will probably be pre sented to the Buncombe county grand jury today.
