Recruiting station for the Navy wants young Negro men - to join the Navy and serve as mess "■attendants. Applicants will be ac- daily from 9 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. at the Asheville Post Office building. Honey Bunch The Bulletin received its lar gest bunch of grapes of the season on Saturday from the Lindsey vineyard. The bunch weighed 20 ounces and the grapes were delic iously sweet. In fact, all the grapes we have received from Tryon vine yards this season seem to be bet ter than ever. Mrs. Lou Green, 81 Mrs. Lou Green, age 81, died Sethis morning at her home in the licounty. Funeral services will be y held at Peniel church on Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock with the Rev. J. E. Osteen in charge, as sisted by the Rev. R. D. Byrd. The deceased is survived bv one foster son, Archie Green of Tryon. Kiwanis Tuesday The Tryon Kiwanis club will meet on Tuesday at 1 n. m. at Ho tel Tryon. L. A. Avant will be in charge of the program. Methodist Business Women’s club meets tonight at 8 o’lock with Mrs. R. C. Burnett. Today’s Headlines Dr. E. M. Gwathmey, president of Converse college, will speak at the first asSemby period of the new term of the Landrum public schools Tuesday at 10 a. m. Three persons, all residents of Anderson county, S. C. were drowned in Lake Summit, near Tuxedo, Sunday afternoon when the 16-foot motorboat in which they were riding overturned. The dead are: Fate Black, 50 years old, Fate Black. Jr. 9 years old and Thomas Martin. It is estimated that 21,000,000 automobiles took to the highways this week-end in celebration of the Labor Day holidays. All the banks and post offices in the nation closed in observance of the day. President Roosevelt announced in a speech last night from Wash ington that the government had allocated $2,500,000 to help speed reemployment and he called on industry to helptall it could. Plans are being made to relieve the drought stricken area. “We are go ing to have a farm policy that will serve the national welfare.” he said. A joy-hopping airplane crashed Sunday near Pittsburgh and killed ten people. The plane caught on fire when it landed. Mrs. Markham who flew the At lantic ocean from England last week says her engine stopped cnce for a few seconds while she was over the ocean. She said she took a drink of brandy and closed her eyes. But the engine started going again and worked until she i landed in America.
