The Bible class of the Mill

sor a musical program (Kirby and
Don White) at the Mill Spring
school on Friday night at 8 o’clock.
Admission for adults 25c. Those

Roosevelt Train Here
While President Roosevelt and
his party were travelling by auto
mobile to Charlotte via Chimney
Rock, Rutherfordton, the presi
dent’s special train of seven cars
passed through Tryon at 1:30. Had
the journey been made by train the
president would- have visited Try
on, too. Agent T. G. Miller says
that the best rail route from Ashe
ville to Charlotte is byway of
Tryon and Spartanburg.
Rally
At Mill Spring
Polk county Republicans will
hold a county-wide rally on Thurs
day, Sept. 17, at Mill Spring at
5 p. m. The chief speaker will be
the Hon. Clyde Jarrett, candidate
for Congress from this district.
There will be some other speeches.
The public is invited to the rally
and everybody is asked to bring
Avell-filkd baskets for an old time
picnic and enjoy themselves. Coun
ty Chairman Ed Newman is in
charge of the program with Walter
Thompson and J. Lee Lavendar
and others assisting him.

Columbus, Sept. B.—The annual
meeting of the Green River B. T.
U. association was held Sunday
at the Piney Knob Baptist church,
in the upper part of Rutherford
county with a good representation
from the 30 churches in the asso
ciation present.
The program subject was “Vic
tory For Christ,” with the follow
ing taking part in the discussion:

George Gibbs, principal of Sun
ny View high and grammar schools,
was elected head of the organiza
tion to succeed the Rev. Charles
B. Trammel. Miss Hattie Hensley
was named secretary with W. C.
Lynch, pastor-advisor. District
leaders for next year will be:
Verne Allen, Mrs. Yates Walker,
Ruth Goode, and C. C. Nanney.—

Sharp at Rotary
Maj. Bernard Sharp will deliver
the princinal address at the Tryon
Rotary club at its regular luncheon
on Friday at 1 p. m., at Lake
Lanirr Inn. Major Sharp will
discuss the European situation.
