C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3,1879 (Eln> (Emm Satlu Bulletin (The Smallest Daily Newspaper In The World) Vol. 9, Est. 1-31-28 Home from Abroad Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bingham and daughter, Miss Ann Bingham returned to Tryon from an tour of Europe, Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Crandall arrived Saturday from their trip to Ja pan and Asiatic countries. Last week Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cran dall and Mrs. Dudley C. Smith re turned home from Europe and the week before that Mr. Smith came in from England. Next month Mrs. Margaret Culkin Banning is expected home from the north af ter an extended tour of Spain and other European countries. Wm. B. Weigel has gone from Germany to South Africa; Miss Mary Sharp and Mrs. Gittings who are on a visit to South America are not ex pected back until about the first of December. Miss Hope Wash burn came home last week from Europe. She carried her car with her. The Nelson Jacksons spent month of June in Mexico; Mrs. L. Meegan visited the Pacifiic inlands via New York and Pana ma canal. A number of Tryonites visited Canada, but nearly all the c'tizens are headed home and Try on is looking forward to an inter esting season. Theater Changes Tryon’s Theater is having its interior fixed up. New tile floor greets the movie fan in the lobby, nice new carpets are being laid for the aisles and new celotex boards are being erected around the stage to improve the sound ef fects. TRYON, N. MONDAY, SEPT. 21, 1936. Mrs . Flynn s Sister Arrives in America New York, Sept. 20 —Lady Nan cy Astor, Virginia-born first wo man member of Britain’s parlia ment, described President Roose velt and Gov. Alf M. Landon as “decent fellows” today—and steer ed clear of expressing any politi cal preference between them. The “gi’eat thing about Anglo- Saxcn countries, she observed, was that “political enemies can still meet and be courteous to each other.” The former Nancy Langhorne, arriving for her first visit here in four years, explained she likes to arrive in presidential election years “because so much is going on that nobody notices you and you don’t have to make speeches.”—Herald Tryon Weather Tryon is known as an excellent winter resort, and yet during the hot month of August it compared very favorably with nearby sum mer resorts. The mean maximum for Hendersonville during August was 84.0; for Asheville 86.2; for Tryon 85.9. The mean minimum for Hendersonville was 62.6; for Asheville 63.5; for Tryon 65.2. These are not figures taken from the Chamber c!f Commence, but from the monthly report of the State and Federal weather bureau. Dynamite wrecked a newspaper plant, demolished a big Catholic church and killed four persons on Sunday in Havana, Cuba. 20 per sons were injured: and 20 persons have - been arrested.
