Meeting on Monday

ysociation held its first meeting of
the new session on Monday after
noon at the school auditorium with
the new President, Dr. Blanche
Elfrink, presiding. Dr. Elfrink
gave an interesting account of her
recent trip to California and of
the P.-T. A. she visited there. Mrs.
S. C. Dailey spoke of the relation
of the County Nures to the school
children and suggested that a pre
school age clinic be held in order
to prevent diseases from getting
into the school. Supt. W. A.
Schilletter stated that the conges
tion in the second grade was ter
rible where 91 pupils are being
taught by only two teachers. He
said that it would be necessary to
rearrange this grade so that half
the pupils would come in the morn
ing and half in the afternoon. Miss
fcjEvelyn Carruth of Landrum was
v welcomed as a new teacher in the
school. Following the business
session members repaired to the
cafeteria for a reception for the
new teacher and new parents.

guson, Mrs. James A. Baker, Mrs.
Frank K. McFarland, Mrs. W. F.

Two hundred Western North
Carolina Democrats, meeting in
caucus with state officials at the
county courthouse Monday after
noon, heard county chairmlen
from the 13 counties in the 11th
congressional district pledge them
selves to a determined effort to
set up precinct organizations that
will bring in a Democratic major
ity in the November 3 election
which would surpass the 25,000
majority polled in the party in 1932
State Democratic Chairman J.
Wallace Winborne, of Marion, pre
siding, strongly urged the county
party officials to “know your pre
cinct.” “Make a poll of every
voter in it to find out your possible
strength and then check your lists
against the registration to see that
all Democrats are registered. And
finally,” he continued, “be sure that
all of them vote on election day.”

To Hear Clyde Jarrett
The young Republican club of
Saluda will meet Thursday night,
September 24th. at 7:30 at the
school house. Clyde Jarrett, can
didate for Congress, will address
the meeting.
