C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3,1879 (The Smallest Daily Newspaper In The World) Vol. 9, Est. 1-31-28 TB&PS Opens The Tryon Book & Paper Shop which first opened its doors Nov. . 1, 1929, will re-open on Monday fcfor its eighth season. The proprie tors are Miss Genevieve Washburn and her brother, John Washburn. While in the East this summer Miss Washburn bought a new stock of prints, papers, stationery and Christmas gifts and gift wrappings. She also made ar rangements for the Shop to carry a larger stock of carefully selected books for sale. Cold Weather Hits Many Northern States Rochester, N. Y., was covered with a blanket of snow Monday and feeling a 32 degree air. A blizzard hit Minnesota around S+. Paul and sent the thermometer down 8 degrees below zero in some places| It was zero at two North Dakota points. The Miss issippi river was frozen over at "Little Falls. Snow and sleet fell over most of lowa and New York City was enjoying a 33 degree tem perature Monday night. When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder The Polk County Chapter of the American Red Cross Roll Call will be held on Thursday and Friday, November 12 and 13. Brotherhood Meet The regular meeting of the Wesley Brotherhood will be held at the Tryon Methodist church on Thursday night of this week be ginning at 7 p. m. TRYON, N. C., TUESDAY, Boy Scout Gamp Acquires Property Gastonia, N. C., Oct. 26.—Offi cials of the Piedmont Council Boy Scouts of America, Inc., have just acquired a tract of land at Lake Lanier adjoining the Piedmont Boy Scout Camp which will provide thirty-two additional acres of beautiful mountain lands to t'ne camp. This land will largely be developed during the coming win ter and spring for use next sum mer. The Piedmont Scout Camp has outgrown its ability to serve the large number of Boy Scouts who wish to attend the camp each year. With the addition of this piece o* property recently purchased the camp facilities will be enlarged so that more boys may be accommo dated and so that a richer program be developed. A part of the n w property will be developed as an ath]et : c field in which tennis courts and a track for field and track events may be carried out. Dunne the past summer more than 1.100 Scouts and leaders were en rolled in the Piedmont Scout camp. Honolulu In 5 Days Mrs. W. C. Ward received a let ter early Monday mornine that had arrived Sunday from Honolulu via the China Clipper in five days. The message from Mrs. C. H. Kock left Hawaii on October 20, by the new fast airplane service which now brings Tryon and the Pacific is lands closer together. OCT. 27, 1936
