Est. 1-31-28 Polk Alligator Many honors and gifts have been showered upon modest Dr. A. J. Jervey whose service to humanity has won him a warm place in the hearts of many people. Some time | ago he was given the Beaver Award for outstanding service to the youth of America in the Boy Scout movement. Today a man left the Bulletin office with an alligator to give to Dr. Jervey as a pet. Whether the good doctor accepted the alligator or not is not known. The ’Gator was hardly more than a foot long but when the linotype operator stroked him gently on the back he snapped beck at him with trigger quickness. The amphibian was found by William McCurry in Pacolet river neer Harmon Field. A. N. Kunkle, who has been a patient for some time at St. Luke’s hospital, got the animal this morning to give to Dr. Jervey. He said he might make a good pet and keep com pany with Miss Calvert’s dog. The stamp window will be open be tween 12 and 1 o’clock. Lum Gets One Vote All friends of Lum and Abner cf Pine Ridge will be interested to know that one vote for Justice of the Peace was cast in the Co lumbus township for Lum Ed wards. The official returns for the whole county by precinct will be published in this week’s Polk County News. Extra copies may be obtained for 5c each. Football on, Armistice The Tryon-Saluda team meets Greenville in an Armistice Day game at Harmon Field. Due to the stores closing and prospects for good weather, a large crowd is expected. All the Tryon-Saluda boys are in good shape after the Waynesville game and are determ ined to get back into the winning column again.
