N C., WEDNESDAY, NOV. 18, 1936 Football On Friday The Tryon-Saluda team is in ex cellent shape for the battle with the high-stepping Mars Hill team. The players have l»en lucky so 4tor this season in having a mini mum number of injuries. All the team will be ready to give the visitors a real battle and try and bring the championship of the Blue Ridge Conference to Tryon. Yesterday the Tryon - Saluda “B” team lost a close decision to the Hendersonville “B” team at Hendersonville 7to 6. The Tryon- Saluda boys outplayed the Hender sonville team all the way and it was cnly through the air that they were scored upon. Tryon-Saluda made its touchdown when Holbert grabbed a Hendersonville fumble out of the air and raced for a touchdown. The work of G. Fos ter at end and F. Shields in the backfield was particularly out standing. J. L. Shields played an excellent game at tackle. On Thursday, the Tryon Junior plays Judson. The game last xnursday was rained out and was changed to this week. A small ad mission will be charged. The last game ended 12 to 0 in favor of Judson. Charles Edison, president of the Edison company was appointed as sistant secretary of the Navy on Tuesday by President Roosevelt. I FOOTBALL Friday-—Mars Hill I HARMON FIELD y\l Ordway Horses Take 2 More Prizes at Show The following clipping from the Battle Creek (Mich.) newspaper will be of interest to Mrs. Ord way’s friends in Tryon: “Appetizer, handsome hunter from Mrs. Donald P. Ordway’s Long Beach stables at Gull lake, captured the Wharton Memorial trophy at the National Horse Show in Madison Square Gardens, New York City Sunday evening. Appe tizer placed first in the ladies’ open hunter class to win one of the most important victories for horses from middle-western stables, in past years in background of the show. “Wilmer, another Long Beach stable entry, placed third in the same class. Appetizer won out over a class of 33 horses, including entries of Mrs. John Hay Whitney, always one of the foremost con tenders for national honors, and these of the Guggenheim and Untermyer stables. The Ordway horses have won five ribbons so far, among the more than 2,000 entries in the show.” MME. SCHUMANN-HEINK Mme. Schumann - Heink, noted contralto, died of blood disease in Hollywood Tuesday night at the age of 75.'
