Landrum, Nov. 22.~Virgil Wal
ter Cook nine-year-old son of Mr.
and Mrs. E. W. Cook, Landrum,
Route 1, Polk County, N. C., died
at St. Luke’s hospital in Tryon, N.
#C., this afternoon.
Funeral services are to be con
ducted Monday morning at llo’-
clcck at the Penile Baptist church
by the pastor, the Rev. J. E. Osteen
Interment will be in the church
yard .
Active pallbeares will be Donell
Flynn, Horace Durham, Fred
Cochran and William Holbert.
The youth is survived by his pa
rents; two brothers, James and
Floyd; and two sisters, Edith and
Creda, all of Landrum, Route 1.
FINAL FOOTBALL GAME
HERE ON WEDNESDAY
The Tryon-Saluda team will en
tertain Spartanburg in its last
game of the season on Wednesday.
The Spartanburg gridders are met
, every year and always bring a
M scrapping team. Last year the lo-
cals were nosed out 6 to 0 and are
anxious to avenge this defeat. The
game will be the last one that
Blackwell, J. L. Shields, and B.
Chapman will play for Tryon.
Blackwell has been an outstanding
performer for the past several
years and his presence at quarter
back will be missed. Chapman at
guard has turned in excellent
work all season this being his sec
ond year of football. The players
are all in good shape for the final
encounter and will do their best
to ring up a victory.

KIWANIS CLUB MEETS IN
LANDRUM, SOUTH CAROLINA
The Tryon Kiwanis club will
meet on Tuesday at 1 p. m. at
the Imperial hotel in Landrum. H.
0. Prince will be in charge of the
program. District State Attorney,
Sam R. Watt of Spartanburg will
be the chief speaker.
YOUNG MEN'S CLUB TO
MEET ON TUESDAY P. M.
The Young Men’s club of Tryon
which is being organized will meet
on Tuesday night a 8 o’clock in
te club room next to Slack’s Phar
macy. About 30 men joined the
club on Saturday night.
MASONIC LECTURER HERE
Assistant Grand Lecturer, W.
D. Wilder of Woaverville is con
ducting Masonic classes with local
Masons all this week. A regular
communication of Skyuka Lodge
will be held tonight at Missildine’s
Hall with G. E. Bell, Worshipful
Master, presiding.
PLANS BEING MADE FOR
BIG THANKSGIVING DAY
Tryon merchants have been ad
vertising in the Bulletin the good
things they have to eat for a big
Thanksgiving dinner. The Post
Office, bank and all the stores will
be closed. Union Thanksgiving ser
vices will be held in the Congre
gational church at 11 a. m. with
the Rev. John A. Pinckney, rector
of the Episcopal church as the
preacher. Kay Frances in “The
White Angel” will be the main at
traction at Tryon’s Theater.
