President Johnson will be the chief speaker at Friday’s meeting. Midgets Lost To Spartanburg Kiddies The Tryon Junior Football team lost to the Spartanburg midget team on Monday afternoon by a score of 24-0. This was the last game of the season, but Coach M. B. Caldwell is looking forward to developing a stronger team for next season. Some of the present team* will have had a lot Jlof experience to take with them ■to the big B or Varsity team. The Weather Cold weather has been gripping the nation the past few days. 70 cargo vessels on Lake Sunerior were blocked on account of ice. Ice coated highways stopped traffic in the Carolinas between Asheville and Charlotte. Parts of Massachusetts had coldest weather in 40 years. Buses and cars carry ing city papers were delayed sev eral hours. Warmer weather with rain is forecast for much of the South today. C„ WEDNESDAY, DEC. 2, 1936 R. T. Brooks Manager Os Tryon Toy Makers R. T. Brooks has taken over the management of the Tryon Toy- Makers and Wood Carvers former ly managed by Robert Erskine for the Farmers Federation. Edward Sayre Breaks Local Golf Record The golf record on the new greens at the Tryon Country club was broken Sunday by Edward Sayre who shot a 38. The previous record of 39 was held by Nelson Jackson, Jr. Pro Larry Brooks, states that he is going to break Sayre’s record. Plans Are Being Made For Negro Christmas Mrs. Dudley Smith, chairmarw)f the Christmas Tree program for the Tryon Colored people announc ed today that the following people would serve with her on the Negro Christmas Tree program this year: Mrs. M. B. Flynn, Mrs. G. L. Can field, Mrs. Rogers Shaffer, Mrs. Robert Erskine and Mr. C. J. Lynch. It is planned to give 200 Negro children 25c Christmas presents. It will take about SSO for this program, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Canfield, Mrs. Flynn and Mr. Lynch will receive contributions from anyone desiring to help with this work.
