Est. 1-31-28 TRYON. N C., FRIDAY, DEC. 11, 1936 Mrs. Roosevelt Buys Christmas Toys Here Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt has sent her usual order for Christmas soys to the Tryon Toy-Makers and < Carvers. The order is now being made up. Mrs. Roosevelt has bought Christmas toys from the Tryon Toy-Makers the past four years. Reception Tonight for Minister and His Wife The Church of the Holy Cross (Episcopal) will give a reception tonight at the Parish House at 8:30 in honor of the new rector, the Rev. John C. Pinckney and Mrs. Pinckney. All members of the other churches and visitors are cordially invited to attend. Party jjj At Toy-Makers Home Soon Miss Vance and Miss Yale will give their annual Christmas party to the school children on Wednes day, December 16, at their chalet Pear the Toy Shop. Tryon school children in the first two grades and children from the same grades in the Sunny View school will be in vited to the party which will en tertain about 80 young people. The children will firlst visit the Toy Shop and then march to the home nearby where they will sing songs rnd hear a Christmas story. The rublic will be invited later to view the beautiful Christmas scene made by the Toy-Makers. Dec. 16—Donald C. 'Peattie to address Garden club at home of Mrs. Walter C. Hill at 1 3:30 p. m. Dec. 21—Court of Honor at Tryon school for Polk county Boy Scouts, 7:30 p. m. Dec. 21— ' ; As You Like It” movie at Tryon’s Theatre for Lanier club. Dec. 23 —Dance; Miss Betty and Harold Shelnutt, at Sunny Dale log cabin. Dec. 24—Negro Christmas tree program. Mrs. Dudley Smith, chairman. Dec. 25—Kiwanis distribution of Christmas baskets. Dec. 25—St. Agnes Guild dance at Parish House. Dec. 26—Dance at Biltmore Forest. Dec. ??—Dance; Carter Wilkie Brown and Donald Wing. Dec. 29—Dance at Oak Hall with Pine Crest Inn as joint host. Dec. 30—Dance at Parish House. Misses Barbara and Dorothy Smith, hostesses. Tryon Girls Lost In Basketball Tryon Town Girls lost their first basketball game r of the sea son Thursday night to the Flat Rock Town Girls’ basketball team at the local gymnasium by a score of 24-14.
