C., WEDNESDAY, JAN. 13, 1936 Firemen’s Party Enjoyed by Many Tryon friends were real proud of their Volunteer Fire Depart ment Tuesday night when they accepted the invitation 1 of the fire men to a house warming in their new quarters over the Town’s offices. Approximately 200 guests called during the evening and paid tribute to the fidelity of these men who have volunteered to help pro tect the property of the community from fire. An old out of date fire truck was sparkling with paint and polish showing that the men were making the best of what they had. Upstairs in their quarters everything was clean. The inter ior had been painted, and all the furnishings and fixing had been donated bv friends of the depart ment. The ment were oroud to show it off. They had nice show er baths, sinks, electric hot plate, tables, cooking utensils, kitchen cabinet, radio, rugs, etc., and in the club room were pool and ping nong tables, reading lamps, game tables. Friends began looking around to sse if there wasn’t some other things to make the place more attractive and some one noticed that pictures were needed for the long bare walls, a three-quarter bed springs and mattress are needed, and a few other things, but visitors were so impressed with the cleanliness and home-like atmosphere. The fire men were dressed in attractive firemen’s caps and each had an official badge. They served their Continued on Back Page. Two Important Property Sales The attractive estate of Mrs. Effie T. Parsons in Pacolet Hills formrely occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Priestly Conyers, Jr., has been sold to Mrd. Maude G. Brand. Mrs. Brand and family have occupied the Rogers Lynncote cottage the past two seasons, and Tryon friends will be glad to know that Mrs. Brand is making Tryon her permanent home. The sale was made through C. J. Lynch. Another valuable transaction was the sale of a house and two tracts of land to Mrs. Suzanne Beust of Lacrosse, Wis., who has been a guest for several weeks at Hotel Tryon. Her new property was acquired from the Tryon Title Co., and Mrs. E. J. Rhodes and is located on the Howard Gap Road near the Gaines property. This sale was also made through C. J. Lynch. Rebel Cruiser Fired Upon By British Ship News report at 2:30 this! after noon stated that a British warship anchored in the harbor of Valen cia, Spain, fired on a Spanish rebel cruiser which shelled Valencia for about ten minutes about 9:30 o’clock this morning. The rebel ship fired about 70 shots it is reported.
