Arthur Lincoln re ported Monday that the total col lections received by the Polk Coun ty Chapter of the American Red Cross for flood sufferers so far was over $1,500.00. Today noon the treasurer, James B. Hester, reported additional donations from all over the county that sent the contributions to $1,602.78. The employees of Katterman - Mitchell Silk Mill at Columbusi contributed $34.25; a $7 collection also came in Saturday from Columbus. The Green Creek Baptist church sent in $13.25 and the Green Creek Ba p t ist Woman’s Missionary Union sent in $7.50, a total of $20.70. Saluda sent in $23.00. C., Feb. 6.—Word has just been received at the head quarter's of the Piedmont Council here to the effect that the Hon. Clyde R. Hoey, Governor of the State of North Carolina, will speak to the Boy Scouts of the State over station WBT on Friday night, February 12th, at 6:45 o’clock in commemorating the 27th brithday of the founding of the Boy Scout movement in America. TRYON, N. C., TUESDAY, FEB. 9, 1937 Bridgeman Is Being Held by Polk Sheriff Columbus, Feb. 8. Thomas Bridgeman, 45, of Polk county, was taken into custody on Sunday by Sheriff W. D. Hines pending the completion of an investiga tion into the case involving the burning of a house and injuries .to Thomas Lawter, 75. Bridgeman was taken into cus tody following his dismissal from St. Luke’s hospital, Tryon, where he received treatment for injuries suffered at the time Lawter’s home was burned on Monday night, January 25. Lawter, who suffered a fractur ed skull, remains unconscious at St. Luke’s hospital. His condition is reported to be very serious. Lawter and Bridgeman were found in an unconscious condition near the burned home by Pink McAbee, a neighbor, who was at tracted by the blazing house. The house was three miles northeast of here. Lawter was found lying at the edge of the yard and Bridgeman near the highway, about 75 yards from the house. — Asheville Citizen.
