Price of J\ Division One of the Carolinas Ki ) wanis District was the chief speaker at the Tryon Kiwanis club meeting on Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Hotel Tryon. The speaker out lined the principles and objectives of Kiwanis International: To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to ma terial values of life. To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships. To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, busi ness, and professional standards. To develop, by precept and ex ample, a moi’e intelligent, aggres sive and serviceable citizenship. To provide through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build bet ter communities. To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possble the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will. An interesting feature of the meeting was the presentation of Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln as a new member of the club by Carroll P. Rogers, past president and for mer lieutenant governor, who ably exoressed the meaning and work of Kiwanis. C., WEDNESDAY, FEB 17, 1937 Tryon Boys To Sing Over Radio Ghapel Hill, Feb. 17.—Singing with the University of Noi’th Carolina Glee club in its first broadcast this year over station WDNC, Durham, Thursday after noon at 1:30, are Frank and Eugene Turner of Tryon. Both the men’s and women’s glee club will participate in the broadcast, under the direction of Professor John T. Toms of the Uuiversaty Music department. On Friday night the Glee club will give a concert in Hill Music Hall, on the Carolina campus. Tryon-Inman Split Tryon Athletic girls won a game of basketball from the In man Mills “Lassies” last night on the local court by a score of 21-14. The game was a hard fought one and the outcome was in doubt un til the last few minutes. The score was a tie in the half and also in the third quarter, but the local girls went over the top in the last quarter. The Tryon Ath letic boys lost a hard fought game to the Inman boys by a score of 25 to 21. The grading for the nurses’ new home at St. Luke’s hospital began Tuesday and the [building will soon be in progress. Mr. Mont gcmei-y Whaling is the architect in charge of the building.
