C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3.1879 (Ermnt Bmlg Jiulktin (The Smallest Daily Newspaper In The World) Vol. 10, Est. 1-31-28 Scouters at Columbia It will take several installments «»Jo tell you about the many good «iings at the annual meeting of , Region Six of the American Boy Scouts held in Columbia, S. C., on Wednesday. Scout leaders from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina travelled hundreds of miles to study better methods of extending the Boy Scout movement to every boy who wants to be a Boy Scout. Polk county and the Piedmont Council are well known to Scouters in these four states of the Region. Nelson Jackson, Jr., of Tryon was re-elected vice-president of the Region. At the banquet table on my right was a Scout executive from Bradenton, Fla., who is the superintendent of the Sunday school where Dr. John Brittan Clark has been preaching a series of sermons. At my left was a former newspaper man from Ala bama who is now Scout Executive <at West Point. Ga. In front of me was a Scouter from Newberry, S. C., who stated that M. B. Cald well, now of Tryon, was the first Scout at Newberry. Men interested in chara |"er IbuiUding were there from Miami to the North Carolina East Coast to the Chattahoochee River in Georgia. It was an inspiring convention and we hope it will mean a lot to Polk county. The editor had the pleasure of making this trip and will publish notes from time to time. C., FRIDAY, FEB. 19, 1937 Control of Madison Sought by Democrats Raleigh, Feb. 17. Legislation enabling the Democrats to get and keep control of the Republican county of Madison was offered in the lower house on Wednesday by Democratic Rcepresocntatives D. F. Giles, of McDowell, Thornes J. McDowell of Polk, and C. W, Taten of Tyrrell. The bill, introduced by these men at the request of the Demo cratic organization of Madison, in creases the present board of com missioners now composed of three Republicans, to seven members by the addition of four Democrats: F. E. Freeman, D. G. Church, W. J. Teague and George Bruce. Ties Record Lincoln C. Brigham who recent ly came to Tryon from Arizona, tied the Tryon golf course record on Thursday when he shot a score of 38, tieing the score held by Larry Brooks and Edward Sayre. Mr. Brigham missed a ten foot putt for a 37. ' Basketball Tonight Tonight beginning at 6:30 there will be three basketball games with the Green’s Creek teams. midgets play first, followed by the girls at 7:30 and the boys ending up at 8:30.
