J. L. Mc- Clure, had his right arm ampu tated just below the elbow, on Monday afternoon when he was playing with some other children and one of them accidentally dis charged a shot gun. The load tore the little fellow’s arm nearly off and it was beyond saving. The doc tor amputated it. BROTHERHOOD MEETS The Wesley Brotherhood will meet on Thursday night at 7 o’clock at the Try on Methodist church. Election of officers. MADISON BILL KILLED The bill to put in four Demo cratic commissioners in Madison county to out vote the Republicans there was killed in the House to day. The legislature decided to let Madison county have self govern ment. B. L. Ballenger left today for several days visit in Raleigh as the guest of Senator and Mrs. F. P. Bacon. BASKETBALL NEWS ' Tryon midget basketball team lest to Saluda midgets on Mon day night at Saluda by a score of 14 to 15. Tryon Colored High teams play Sterling High of Greenville, S.C., here tonight in what promises to be one of the seasons fastest games L. R. Wells. TRYON, N.C., TUESDAY, FEB. 23, 1937. Golf Tournaments Schedule for five Weeks Season opens on March sth. Events will be scheduled for each week during the season. All events, except/ where noted, will be at 18 holes. All visitors to Tryon and members of golf clubs in adjoining communities are cordially invited to enter the tournaments. Women players are eligible in all com,pe tetions. The events are scheduled for two days of each week in order to enable some players to play nine holes on Fridays and the other nine on Saturdays. The full 18 hcled may be played either day if desired. Prizes will include Silver Loving Cup, Golf Balls, etc. March 5 and 6: Flag Tourna ment Handicap. Prizes for first, second and third places. March 12 and 13: Match play against par. (handicap). Prizes for first and second places. March 19 and 20th: Low Net event. (handicap). Low Gross event. (No handicap). Prize for winner in each event. March 26 and 27: One club event. Players choice of club, (nine holss handicap). Player must have caddy who will carry his bag and club. Prizes for first, second and third places. April 2 and 3rd: Obstacle tour nament. Every freak obstacle must be played through or around ac cording to the rules. (Nine holes; no handicap). Prizes for first and second places. M. B. Flynn.
