Basketball Results

The Tryon Athletic girls and
the Columbus school girls’ game
last night ended with a tie of
15-15. This was a fast and hard
fought game on both sides. The
score was close from start to
finish.
The Tryon Athletic boys lost to
the Landrum Town boys in the last
few seconds of the game by a score
of 28-26. One of Tryon’s outstand
ing players sprained his knee and
was forced to leave the game. The
Tryon boys were in lead until this
accident.

Arthur D. Wilcox
Arthur D. Wilcox, 64, for many
years a resident of Saluda, N. C.,
died at Holly Hill on February
25. Burial services will be held
at Milledgeville, Ga., on Saturday.
Mr. Wilcox was born at Midway
near Milledgeville, on August 11,
1872. He is survived by three
brothers, W. F. Wilcox of Atlanta,
Capt. J. W. Wilcox, U. S. N.,
Louis Wilcox, Augusta, Ga., and
four sisters, Mrs. L. J. Ander
sen, and Mrs. Arthur Tufts, of
Atlanta; Miss L. Clifford
of Saluda, and Mrs. Linlock Dun
lop, of Macon. The deceased was
unmarried.
Jones-Ellison
A marriage of interest to
friends throughout the county was
that on Saturday evening of Miss
Jennie Jones to Mr. Rogers Elli
son. The ceremony was perform
ed by Judge Dewey Foster in
Spartanburg. The bride is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. U. G.
Jones of Saluda and the groom
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis
Ellison of Tryon. The young
couple will make their home in
Tryon, and Mrs. Ellison will con
tinue her work as an operator at
the Ponce de Leon Beauty Shop.
Mrs. Ellison is a graduate of the
Saluda high school and of the
Asheville Beauty Academy. The
groom is an employee of the
Southern Mercerizing Co.
