Bacon On City Council At the regular meeting of the Town of Tryon Commissioners on Tuesday night, J. Vernon Hall, manager of the Ballenger Co., grocery department, was elected to fill out the rmexpired term of F. P. Bacon, who automatically dropped from the board when he became state senator. Mr. Hall is a well-known business man and has been active in community business affairs. He will hold office until the first week of May when the regular election will be held. The present town elective government is now composed of Dr. E. E. Missildine, mayor; R. S. Jackson, W. M. Ballew and J. V. Hall, commissioners. Officers for the coming election were ap pointed as follows: P. G. Morris, C. M. Eargle and George Holmes, Sr., judges. Basketball The Tryon Midgets defeated Saluda Midgets 15 to 14 here on Tuesday. The line-ups were as follows: Tryon—(ls) McFarland, f (4) ; Beatson, f (3); Ford, c (2); Chapman, g (4) ; Parker, g (3). Saluda (14) Elwea, f (3) ; Pace, f (4); Chappell, c (5); Cooper, g (1); Middleton, g (1). Substitutes, Tryon: McLean; Sa luda: Seay. Referee, Soleeby; um pire, Jones, Blackwell. The Tryon Midget team plays Columbus Midget team this af ternoon. TRYON, N. C., WEDNESDAY, MAR. 10, 1937 Tri-County Basketball A Tri-County Basketball Tour nament is being played this week at the Green’s Creek School, be ginning at two o’clock today (Wed nesday) afternoon. Games on the first day will be 'as follows: 2 p. m. Mt. Vernon vs. Sunny View (girls); 3p. m. Cool ey Springs vs. Mt. Vernon (boys) ; 4 p. m. Boiling Springs vs. Sun shine (boys) ; 5 p. nx. Green’s Creek vs. Sunshine (girls) ; 6 p. m. Harris vs. Green’s Creek B. (girls); 7p. m. Saluda vs. Harris (boys); Bp. m. Saluda vs. Cooley Springs (girls); 9 p. m. Green’s Creek vs. Sunny View (boys). Winners in these games the first day will play on Thursday, be ginning at 6 p. m. Finals will be played on Friday, both boys and girls, beginning at 7:30. Cups will be given both winners. R. McLean of Duluth, Minn., who is attending school in Tryon and also passing tests in Boy Scout woi’k. One of the tests required to earn the merit badge in printing isi the setting up and printing of 100 circulars ii\ connection with Boy Scout work.
