C., THURSDAY, APRIL 15, 1937 The Horse Show The results of the Tryon Horse and Hound Show held Wednesday at Harmon Field will be published in this week’s Polk County News 1 Ist as it was reported in the Asheville Citizen today by Miss Edith Missildine. The show was the greatest and largest attended in its 12 years history. People were present from nearly every state. The weather was ideal and no accidents have been reported from the 4,000 people who enjoyed the event. The entire manage ment of the big show is a credit to the Riding & Hunt club and to the people of the community who made it a success. All visiting officials were high in praise of the show. The Hound Show judge was Hon. Horace Loevell of Nashville, Tenn. Horse Show judges wei’e Charles N. Hancher of Wheeling, W. V and Jackson H. Boyd of Southern Pines, N. C. An important event of N the show was the winning of the George Wick Trophy by Walter C. Hill •er the third time and the trophy came into his perament possession. He rode Carolina for the trophy in class 18 for working hunters. Boy Scout Movies At Parish House Scout Executive R. M. Schiele has announced the showing of free moving pictures of the Piedmont Council Boy Scout Camp and Lake Lanier to be presented on Mon day night, April 19, at 7:15 o’clock when- the Polk County Court of Honor will be held. The public is cordially invited to see the pictures and to attend the Court arid the boys' promoted. Came from Texas To Win Big Show Jane McClure and Flying Eagle the two dogs owned by Mrs. J. R. Parker of Robinsville, Miss., and shipped from Texas to Tryon, took first prizes. The sweepstakes tro phy presented by the Tryon Band & Trust Co., for the best dog in the show went to Jane McClure and the best dog prize for the opposite sex, donated by the Fox Hunters association of Clover, S. C., went to Flying Eagle. Fillers Wednesday was a busy day— just before the Horse Show—had a Boy Scout meeting in the morn ing, a Kiwanis official conference at noon, and a lot of work to do getting news for two newspapers. I wanted to go to Asheville to see the St Louis Cai’dinals play base ball. Had never seen a big league game. And on Wednesday Dizzy Dean, who played with my brother in Oklahoma, was to pitch, and Johnny Mize who played with me in Georgia when he was a bare foot boy on my Boy Scout team, was holding down first base for St. Louis on Wednesday. Most any fellow would want to see a game under those circumstances, but in addition I had a telegram from President Eddie Dyer of the Ashe ville club stating that he had two tickets for me. Now Wednesday was a busy day for I never found time to get to that baseball game- And what about this—Misses Vale and Vance, originators of the Tryon Toy-makers and Wood- Continued on Back Page
