Arledge Elected
Rotary President

ledge was elected president of the
kTryon Rotary club on Friday at
*Oak Hall hotel. Other officers are
E. Perry Manville, vice-president;
John G. Landrum, secretary-treas
urer; directors, F. P. Bacon, Julian
B. Hester, Nelson Jackson, Jr.,
John R. Ferguson, J. M. Baker.
The new officers will be installed
in July.

owner, at the Spartanburg high
school auditorium at 8 p. m., Thurs
day, April 29. and they are ex
tending a cordial invitation to all
members of the Tryon Garden club

Jackson Announces
For Re-Election
Commissioner Ralph S. Jackson
filed Saturday afternoon for re
election to the Town of Tryon
Council and made a total of five
candidates for board of commis
sioners. Three are to be elected.
The five candidates so far are the
present board W. M. Brllew, J.
Vernon Hall, R. S. Jackson and
newcomer-, Claude Fisher and C.
M. Eargle. Mr. Jackson joined
the council six years pgo and has
made a name for himself for his
firmness in holding to the views he
thought best in matters of town
government, Dr. E. E. Missildine
and J. T. Arledge are the only
candidates for mayor. The race is
on. The election will be held on
May 4, one week from Tuesday.
Blois at Kiwanis
Doughis S. Blois, member of the
Tryon-Salude district school board,
who spoke last week at the Rotary
club will give the same address on
Tuesday at 1 p. m., at the Kiwanis
club at Hotel Tryon. He will
roeak on School Affiairs. C. M.
Eargle will have charge of the
program.
Governors Here, WOW !
Governor E. D. Rivers of Georgia
and Governor Clyde Hoey of North
Carolina were in Tryon Sunday
afternoon on their way to Hen
der onvPle to address the state
convention of Woodmen of the
World. The North Carolina motor
'•ade met the Georgia governor just
before the state line near Tryon.
