Jackson Penny Guessing Contest is pgr Sidney Holbert. The number he f guessed was 1161. The number of pennies in the window were 1160. The guessing by customers varied from 150 to 25,000. The Ballenger. Jackson Co., requests the winner to come get his prize. N. G. Boy Scouts Are Having Big Time In Capital Washington, June 30. Over hung skies and occasional driving rains have failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the 500 North Caro lint Boy Scouts who are here par ticipating in the Scout jamboree which was officially opened today. i The North Carolina * troops, as well as those from the southeastern •inW region including both the Caro linas, Georgia Florida are en. camped on Haines point, a strip of man-made land between the main body of the Potomac and the Washington channel. Their tends are located among Washington’s famous cherry trees around which runs the speedway. A heavy wind was whipping over the point this afternoon and there was concern so isorne of the tents in case a ga’e should blow up the Potomac tonight. Dear M'r. Vining: We have done and seen iso much since we arrived in England, that I am afraid that I have been) very bad about writing to my friends in Tryon. During the Coronation proces sion I kept thinking of you all and wished the whole thing was hap pening at Harmon Field or march ing up Trade Street. It was all like a wonderful dream, and one that we shall never forget. Os course this is the best time of the year to be in England, there is so much happening. f The Derby, England’s greatest flat race, was rather a disappoint, ment to us all because my brother in-law, Lord Astor, again, had the favorite in his horse Cash Book and again did not win. He has been second five times third once and favored to win eight times since the war. However, there is another year coming. The military tournament is just over at Olym pia, and the International Horse Show starts there to-day. The great Ascot race meeting finished yesterday, and it iis I think the four greatest racing days in the world. The King and Queen at tended each day this year. The international tennis tournament at Wimbledan begins next week. I think the turf courts at Wimblemen are supposed to be the finest any. where. Lefty went to the Royal Tatoo Friday night.
