JULY 6, 1937 Tryon Club Defeats k Sayles In Twin Bill Behind excellent pitching, Tryon took a double-header from Sayles Saturday on the Sayles diamond in Industrial league competition, 3-2 and 7-2. Sayles was held to five hits in the opener and four hits in the nightcap. Score: First game: Tryon - 3 14 0 Sayles _— 2 5 0 Thompson and Gilbert; Hunny cutt and Bartlett. Second game: Tryon J 10 4 Sayles 2 4 1 Harden and Arledge; J. Brown and Davis. Vital Statistics John G. Monroe, who records the vita! statistics for Tryon town ship, stated this morning that no deaths were reported to him for the township during the month of June. And that there were 16 births. Gored by Bull Reports reached Tryon this morning that the Rev. George Branscom was gored by his bull Monday morning and that he has been taken to Mary Black hospital in SnaTtanburg where he is in a serious condition. Tryon Country Club Tournament Results First Flight: Sam Black, Jr., Spartanburg, won from Leland Hil ton, Tryon, 4 and 3. Second Flight: R. F. Alexander, Spartanburg, won from K. A. Bowen, Tryon, 2 up. First Flight Consolation: M. Morgan Spartanburg, won from Perry Hilton, Tryon, 5 and 4. Second Flight Consolation: E. C. Rowe, Tryon won from J. L. Rowe, Tryon, 1 up. S'am Black, Jr., was low qualifier with an 83. Leland Hilton was second with an 86. Although there were only 12 players entered in the tournament, there were quite a number from Tryon and neighboring clubs who took advantage of the holiday week-end to enjoyi a round or two of golf on our most attractive course. The committee contemplates an Invitation Tournament later in the season and hopes that more of our neighbors will come over for it. Rogers-Rogers The following invitations have been received in Tryon: “The Reverend and Mrs. George Floyd Rogers request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter, Eleanor Floyd, to Mr. Carroll Pickens Rogers. Jr., Saturday evening, the twenty fourth of July, at half after eight o’clock, Trinity church, Asheville, North Carolina.”
